This body of Carolyn Brown's work offers a visual approach to important points of connection between Old and New World peoples, their beliefs, and often astonishing buildings whose continued presence keeps this history alive in today’s world. We see how the arts and religion have interacted through several centuries in a multitude of ways. Three countries, Spain, Portugal and Mexico, provide the architectural subjects.
Carolyn Brown has been a major figure on the Dallas photography scene for a number of years. She has photographed extensively in Mexico, Europe and the Middle East and has authored three photographic books. Her work is in many corporate collections and museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
This exhibit was curated by John Lunsford, an independent art historian. Since 1958, he has had a long association with the Dallas Museum of Art and the Meadows Museum, where he was director from 1996 to 2001. The Meadows Museum, located on the Southern Methodist University campus contains one of the largest collections of Spanish art outside of Spain itself.
