June Redford Van Cleef grew up on a 96,000 acre ranch in far West Texas, less than 100 miles from the US/Mexico border. In the spring of 1995, she received a sabbatical from her position as Professor of Photography at Collin County Community College (she founded the program in 1988) to begin photographing in Presidio, Brewster, Jeff Davis and Culbertson counties. She states, “My heart’s desire to preserve my West Texas ranch roots and my love for everything that supports that way of life propelled me on this photographic journey.” Seven years of work resulted in her newest book with Texas A&M University Press, co-authored with Bill Wright (see below). This is our third show of her work. Her photographs are in the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
